The three day Inclusive Africa Conference drew a global audience this year. Over 300 people attended the event in Nairobi, with 900 joining online, and a further 649 taking part via a network of watch parties across Africa.
The fourth annual event saw 118 experts and speakers take part from 65 countries, and was sponsored by The Mastercard Foundation, Google, and Microsoft who showed their support for taking inclusivity and accessibility in Africa to the next level.
The Attendable team worked on content development, scripting and speaker briefing as well as managing the virtual conference and are so proud to be involved in this game changing event for the third year.
One of the major challenges faced by people with disabilities in Africa is access to assistive technology, often due to high costs and limited availability. This year, the event included an Assistive Technology Innovations Village for the first time, which brought together 28 innovators from across Africa, carefully chosen from a pool of over 100 applications. It showcased innovative assistive technology solutions and presented a unique opportunity for collaboration amongst startups, corporates, and investors during the conference.
Thanks to a partnership with Kenya Airways, disability-inclusion influencers and assistive technology innovators from 15 African countries were able to attend the event and played a pivotal role in shaping the content.
Over the course of three days, 39 panel discussions took place helping shape strategic solutions for digital inclusion in Africa. Topics included education, employment, financial services, inclusive design, travel and transportation, media reporting, consumer research, inclusive policies and standards, accessibility certification, cyber security, inclusive data, web and mobile accessibility, moving the dial forward for digital accessibility in Africa.
The speakers’ passion and willingness to share insights educated, inspired, and, in many cases, empowered the audience to challenge barriers and work towards a more inclusive Africa. On behalf of the organising team thank you to everyone who took part for helping make this year’s Inclusive Africa the most impactful yet.
Attendable is shortlisted for a Conference & Events Award for its work on Inclusive Africa 2022.
